Reading for the Day – Hebrews 13:5 –
‘God has said, ‘never will I leave you, never will I forsake you’.’ (NIV)

Sometimes we don’t always get what we want, when a relationship disintegrates, or a longed for job is offered to someone else – or when things just don’t work out, no matter how hard we try. When the odds are seemingly stacked against us it’s easy to become angry with God and blame him for our setbacks. After all, isn’t He in charge of everything?

The verse from Hebrews tells us that God is always by our side, no matter what we are going through. When our prayers go unanswered we turn to God in dismay as if He has let us down, but Proverbs 3:5 tells us ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding’.

Rather than focus on ourselves, we need to focus on God. God is love. He wants the best for us. He has a plan for our lives and often He will use our disappointments to strengthen our faith and deepen our trust in Him. We may not get that longed for job because God wants us to serve Him elsewhere. Perhaps the relationship that felt so right was a stumbling block between us and God.

As Paul reminds us in Romans 5:5, we always have God’s hope: ‘And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us’.

If you are in the midst of disappointment, remember God’s promise. God is unchanging. He will never leave us, nor forsake us.

Prayer Suggestion : Thank you Lord for being with me always. Help me to trust that you will never leave me and to live in the hope of your Holy Spirit. Let me lean on you and depend only on your eternal promise of love through Your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Reading for the Day – Exodus 15:2
The LORD is my strength and my defense ; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

We all feel very strong in the times of well being. But, the true strength of a person is tested in the times of tempest. If a person was able to stand the test and overcome life struggles and difficulties, they have shown their strength. There are many things, that can break us and many things we draw our strength from. It could be your family, your health, your looks, your friends, your financial or social standing.

However, there come times in our lives, when all those sources of strength fail. It is the most desperate situation, when a person has nowhere to turn for help or for strength. However, there is one source of strength, which never fails. The strength in this source is unlimited. No situation too hard, no foe to strong, no sickness too lethal. When the Lord is the source of your strength, you draw on the infinite and supernatural power of God.

He does not just supply you with enough strength to overcome, but He becomes your defense and your salvation. He puts His supernatural protection around you and over you. He shelters you. And, when you go forth, He becomes your strength to win.

And, there is no need to come to a certain place to draw from Him or to do a certain thing to receive His strength. You always keep it in your heart. Whenever and wherever you call upon the Lord, He hears and answers you. No night too dark, no situation too hopeless for Him to solve or brighten up.

Prayer Suggestion: Pray to the Lord to teach you, how to rely on His strength, how to access it and put it to practice in your life. Pray to show you the Scriptures and learn, how God’s strength can do wonders in your personal life and help you.

Reading for the Day – Ecclesiastes 7:8
The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.

All our actions lead to consequences. However, sometimes, it feels like we have done nothing bad or nothing good, but still reap certain consequences in our lives. Where do those come from? They come from our attitude. Both pride and patience are the attitudes, with which we handle matters. A bad attitude, such as pride, is a like a nice looking apple, rotten inside.

The same is true about patience. Sometimes, we may bear circumstances or people with great patience and please God. But, at other times, we seem to be doing a good thing by just being patient, but reap bad consequences. Why would that happen? Because there are times, when patience ceases to be a virtue.

You do have to be patient, waiting upon the Lord or doing good to those, who treat you poorly. But, when devil gets rampant in your life, when thing go down, when your kids ruin their lives and you stand aside and patiently wait for all this to end, patience is not a virtue anymore.

Sometimes, we really have to get angry. We have to put an end to things, take an initiative and change things for better. Patience is a virtue, when it goes hand in hand with responsibility. If you take God given responsibility for yourself, for your family, for your church, for your city and for your nation, then you work with patience and pray with patience to change things for better. And, things do change. You reap good consequences of your patience in your life, in your family and in your world.

If you just stand there and wait, thinking you are exercising in patience, watching the world and your life with it going to hell, you reap bad consequences of not taking up your responsibility. So, know where and how to be patient.

Prayer Suggestion: Pray to the Lord to show you, where you are truly patient and need to persevere, and where you might be just hiding behind the patience and shunning your responsibility.

Reading for the day – James 2: 14-18

“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds. Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.”

The way to put our faith into action is so obvious, that sometimes we tend to overlook it. We may get a bit entangled in all those teachings on high spiritual matters and forget the simple things of life. The Gospel of our Lord is simple, extremely simple and all its rules or laws, are too.

So, how do you put your faith into practice? You just do, what you believe. Just believing something in your heart is not enough. As long as your faith or conviction stays just inside of you, it stays dead. Faith makes you leap, while unbelief makes you wait.

It does not mean, you have to go ahead and do every thing, that comes to your mind. When it comes to faith, you have to be very careful. Make sure you believe the truth. Faith is like an investment. You have it, just be careful to invest it right. If you believe in truth, it is a sure and safe investment. If you believe in lies, it can ruin your life.

But, once you make sure, you believe the right thing, you have to take an action and bear fruit. If you believe God is the rewarder of faithful people, give money, sow and you will reap. Unless you physically sow, take an action and give, you won’t reap. If you believe, you have to go somewhere, go there. Do not waste your time believing it, but not taking any action.

Prayer Suggestion: Pray to the Lord to help you invest your faith in right words or ideas. Pray to Him to show you the truth and the way for your life, to believe it, hold fast to it and to act upon it.

Reading for the Day – John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

If there is one thing common to all people from all nations, continents, background, financial and social standing, that would be life difficulties and obstacles. Even the richest and most famous people suffer. Saints suffer, too. These sufferings may come from different sources. Some sufferings come from this sinful and imperfect world, others are cause by our mistakes and sins. Some might be the work of the devil.

No matter where these hardships come from, they make us suffer. But, suffering and misery are two different things. When people meet life obstacles on their way, they deal with them differently. Some fall into misery, while others take heart and overcome.

Jesus never promised Christians to be happy and never suffer. On the contrary, from this scripture we can clearly see, that our lives won’t be all butter and honey. Hardships will come, but He has already gotten the victory. There is no need for us to overcome our foes. Our goal is to maintain peace in our hearts and claim the victory of Jesus.

It still will hurt. No way to escape that. But, if you have hope and if you put your trust in God, you can become an overcomer, as He is. Those people, who view this life as their only reality, life obstacles are unbearable. But, if you know a different reality, if you live with God in His supernatural realm, you know that no obstacle is permanent.

You gain the power to meet life troubles with peace in your heart and with a glance of heavenly reality and glory upon your life. You do not become bitter, but you become humble and grateful. These hardships draw you closer to the Lord, instead of casting away from Him.

Prayer Suggestion: Pray that the Lord would help you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Let your heart be filled with faith and peace. Pray that His glory would manifest through your difficult times.

Reading for the Day – Romans 8:28 (NIV)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, whohave been called according to his purpose.

Imagine a beautiful picture painted on the side of a warehouse. If I stand with my nose against the warehouse, I cannot see much of the picture. And what I can see doesn’t look very impressive. It doesn’t make much sense. It certainly doesn’t look like art.

We also have a limited perspective when we imagine God’s plan for our life. We are standing so close to the wall, that we can’t understand the big picture. The truth is that the Creator of the Universe has it all under control! He always has a plan, and that plan is always in motion.

In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God knows the plans that He has for us. We don’t know – we can’t know – our human brains couldn’t understand the big picture even if we could figure it out.

Sometimes we make a mistake, big or small, and we think that we’ve just foiled God’s plan. We’re not giving God enough credit. First of all, God knew at the beginning of time that we would make that mistake. Second of all, He is God – obviously, He can fix our mistakes and/or make good things come of them. We just have to trust Him. We just have to trust in His divine plan.

And when that day comes, when we meet God face to face and the picture becomes clear, when we can stand back from the warehouse and see the painting, oh how beautiful and majestic it will be!

Prayer Suggestion:

Dear Heavenly Father, Forgive me when I doubt your plan. Please forgive me when I am impatient. I do trust you God, and I know that the big picture is perfect, just like your perfect will. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Reading for the Day : Acts 9:13-15 (NIV)

“Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man [Paul] and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.”

A chosen instrument. Paul, at the time called Saul, was “still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord.” Paul’s mission was to stop the spread of Christianity. Yet God chose him. God chose him to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles, to perform miracles, to preach, and to write thirteen books of the Bible.

Obviously, God’s got a thing for extreme cases. An extreme case makes for an extreme testimony. God does not consult with our past to determine our future. If He did, He would have precious few, if any, servants in this world.

In Mark 2:17, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Jesus didn’t come to Earth to collect all the perfect people. He came to save the people who need Him. And the more pain we’ve suffered, the more mistakes we’ve made, the more baggage we carry, the more we need Him.

God cannot use a person who does not need Him. He loves and glorifies those who love and glorify Him. If you are an extreme case, you have a spot in the Kingdom of God. In fact, it was created just for you!

In 1 Timothy, Paul writes,

“Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy.” Even when you are broken, when you’ve messed up, when you’re discouraged, when you think He can’t love you – He does. He always will.

Prayer Suggestion:

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for loving me. Thank you for second chances. Let me always remember that You do have time for me. Please use me Lord. Make me better. Use my past to make me stronger for You. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Reading for the Day : Matthew 6:8b (NIV)

Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Before time began, God knew you. The Creator of the universe, the God who holds power over death, could see through eternity and knew you, long before you ever knew yourself. It’s almost too much to think about, isn’t it?

And God knows what we need, and He promises to meet those needs, to take care of us. Yet so often, we make one of two mistakes. Either we think our needs are too small, or we think they are too big. Oftentimes, we think our petty little issues can’t compare to the hunger and violence and oppression in the world, so we don’t want to “bother God with it.” But we are wrong in this assumption. God wants to be bothered. He asks us to bring our needs to Him in prayer. Likewise, it is wrong of us to assume that a request is too big for God. One woman was told that it was foolish to pray about her terminal cancer. Yet she did, and she was healed.

God knows our innermost thoughts, our wants, our desires. He knows our hearts. And He wants us to direct all of these things toward Him. Matthew 6 tells us not to worry about what we will eat, drink, or wear. Jesus says, “Your Heavenly Father knows that you need these things. But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

God knows our needs and He is just waiting for us to honor and glorify Him by asking Him to meet these needs.

Prayer Suggestion:

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for meeting my needs. Thank you for the food that I eat, the roof over my head, the clothes on my body. Thank you for taking care of me. Help me to trust you and to bring all of my needs to You first. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Reading for the Day: Psalm 23:4 (NIV)

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

Most of us have faced dark times. Many of us are facing dark times right now. But as we go through these dark times, it is important to remember that we needn’t be afraid. Because even though we face darkness, God is still right there with us.

God tells us throughout the Bible that He will never leave us or forsake us. Just like a shepherd, God keeps us safe. He protects us from the darkness and all the threats that the darkness holds. With His metaphorical rod and staff, He guides us and protects us from predators. We are safe with God. Even though we walk through darkness, even though we face seemingly hopeless situations, we don’t have anything to be afraid of.

As Paul writes in Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” God is for us. We are His children. He wants to take care of us, to keep us safe, to protect us. And He does.

Psalm 46:1 calls God “an ever-present help in trouble.” As we learn to live in this world, He is with us. As we walk down dark paths, He is with us. As we face grief, disappointments, financial hardships, addictions, illnesses, and the unfairness of life, He is with us. For eternity.

All we need to do is love Him, trust Him, and enjoy the peace and security that knowing Him brings. And when we do face dark times, how powerful that peace and security becomes!

Prayer Suggestion:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for always being there, for being here right now. Help me to feel Your presence. Please help me through the dark times in life and allow them to bring me closer to You. Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Reading for the Day: Psalm 27:5

For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.

What is it that our parents tell us? They know what is best for us. Even as an adult, your parents may tell you this. Why? They are older and have had more experiences than we have.

It can be irritating to hear, mostly because they may have a point…at times. But, we want to live our own lives in our own way, even if that means making mistakes. At least we would have made a decision on our own.

Well, there is One who is much older than our parents. When He says that He knows best, you can believe it. God created us and the world before that. He has seen thousands of lifetimes come and go. Relying on Him means taking all that knowledge into account and trusting His judgment.

God has an advantage over our parents. While they both love us without reservation, God can see a lot further down the road than they can. Parents, as well meaning as they are, can only guess at the outcome. On the other hand, God knows what will happen as a consequence of every decision that we make.

Trust Him to lead you down the right path in every area of your life: financial, romantic, spiritual, familial and emotional. At the crossroads of the journey, He always knows which way to go.

Prayer Suggestions: God, guide me each and every day to make the choices that will honor You.
