God Can Give You Wholeness

Many of us are struggling every day just to get by. Our lives are unbalanced, out of control.  Sometimes this lack of balance is caused by situations outside of our control, such as the economy, our jobs, responsibilities and obligations. However, in many cases, our unbalanced lives are caused by our own habits and lifestyles.

In many cases, our struggles can be categorized into seven symptoms or excesses that involve:

  • Erecting walls
  • People pleasing
  • Overspending
  • Chemical dependency
  • Thinking too much
  • Always rescuing people
  • Working too much

Does this mean that you shouldn’t try to please others, or help people in need? Does this mean you shouldn’t work overtime for the extra pay? Not at all. We should try to please others, help those in need, and work to support our loved ones.

However, God can help us find a balance and a sense of wholeness in our desire to both help others and to protect ourselves against stress and anxiety. Chemical dependencies can often be blamed on stress or pressure to excel. When we feel weak, frightened, or worried, we often retreat behind walls we erect to keep the hurt and the disappointment away. Feelings of shame, embarrassment, and failure isolate us from our loved ones and create distances between married couples, parents and children, and friends. Many of us feel incapable or unable to live the lives that others expect of us. In such cases, God is our salvation.

Place your troubles in God’s hands. Rely on Him to guide your life. By doing so, you may find you’re not only able to help others, work hard, but also to resist temptation and strive harder to live a healthy and balanced life while at the same time enjoying the benefits of God’s grace.

God’s love, wisdom, compassion and understanding offers each of us a place of retreat and refuge  when life’s pressures become too heavy. You don’t have to put up walls with God. He knows you. You don’t have to go one shopping sprees, eating binges, or rely on alcohol or chemicals when you’re feeling depressed, unworthy, or afraid. Instead, lean on God. His strength can carry us through life’s most difficult situations. God accepts us, faults and all.

Many people think they have to belong to a church in order to benefit from God’s grace, but the truth is, you can seek or commune with God anywhere, even from your solitary refuge at the back of your closet. While you can certainly pray for support and wholeness from a church sanctuary, you can also talk to God in your backyard, while driving, or going for a walk.  Communication is the key to seeking a relationship with God, and it’s up to you to let Him know how you’re feeling. The truth is, God probably already knows how you feel, but He likes to hear you say it.  He wants us to ask for help when we need it.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble”
– Psalm 46:1

Asking for help from God isn’t a sign of weakness, but of faith. Pride and stubbornness don’t help us find peace and stability in our lives. On the contrary, the inability to ask for help, to be open to new options, or believing that we can only rely on ourselves are a few of the obstacles that prevent many individuals from experiencing a peaceful, balanced life.

“Have faith that you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
–Matthew 21:22

God can provide balance to those of us struggling to make ends meet, resolve issues, or overcome tragedy and grief. God can give us wholeness with open hands and a loving heart. All you have to do is ask.

God Can Turn Your Life Around

February 3, 2010 by Robert
Filed under Christian Articles, trust in god

The Bible tells me that when I invite Jesus Christ into my life, I am invited to become a “new creation.”  In 2 Corinthians, Chapter 5, Paul writes, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone; the new has come!”  In Christ, I am invited to get rid of the old person, to be reinvented.  God promises me a fresh start, a clean slate.  Thousands and thousands of people have testified to how God has turned their lives around.  He can turn your life around too.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, in the Book of Jeremiah, God said this to a group of people exiled from Jerusalem:  “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” (Chapter 29)

God has a plan for us.  And he wants us to prosper.  He wants to give us hope and a future.  He knows us and treats us as individuals.  He can help us find out who we are meant to be.  It is in God that we can finally, fully know ourselves.

It doesn’t matter where we’ve been, what we’ve been through, or what we’ve done.  Because of Christ, we are forgiven for our mistakes.  God cares about where we are right now and where we are going.  God wants us to live up to the potential He has planned for us.  We are, after all, created in His image, and He wants to help us live up to that image.

This is why He sent the Holy Spirit into our lives, to comfort, to guide, to strengthen and to shape us.  The moment that we invite Christ into our lives, we also get the Holy Spirit.  They’re something of a package deal.  The Book of Acts tells us that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on us! (Acts 1:8)  Power! Power to change, power to be, power to live!  “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” (2 Tim 1:7)  Do you think you don’t have the strength to walk away from something that hurts you, something that makes you weak, something you know you don’t want?  Think again.  Ask God.

When we reach out, when we ask God to change us, a transformation takes place.  The Bible calls it a “renewing of the mind.”  You will still be you, but you will be more than you.  You will be a better, stronger, wiser version of yourself.  In Philippians 4:13, the Apostle Paul says, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”  By inviting God to strengthen you, you are opening the world up to yourself.  You will be able to do anything, with God’s strength.

You will be able to walk away from things or people who have hurt you or made you suffer.  You will have the courage to be who you are supposed to be, a happy, thriving, vibrant individual with a purpose on this earth!  The gift is there waiting for you.  All you have to do is ask.  Tell God that you want to change, and that you want to start today.  If not now, when?

“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”  (Isaiah 40:31)

God Knows How You are Feeling

January 11, 2010 by Robert
Filed under Christian Articles, trust in god

During Jesus’ earthly ministry, He chose twelve disciples, or students. Their task was to learn about Him and follow His example. It wasn’t enough that they saw what Jesus did; they needed to understand why and how.

Why? He loved them. Jesus was human so He knew what they were feeling and how to address their concerns so they would know how to carry on after His crucifixion.

Today, Jesus is teaching us. And, just like His disciples, He understands how we are feeling and just how to deal with it. It’s not an easy thing to find someone who really knows what is going on inside your mind. God knew that and sent our Savior into the world.

The Lonely

We all seek intimacy. It could be sexual intimacy between a man and a woman, the love between a parent and child or the bonds of friendship that Jesus experienced with His disciples. No one wants to travel this earthly road alone and God doesn’t either. He created us to enjoy a relationship with Him. When you need someone to talk to about your problems, He is always there to listen.

You may be thinking that this is all well and good, but you still crave human companionship. When you seek intimacy with God first, He will give you everything that you need including a human friend, parent or parental figure and possibly a soul mate.

The Broken

Our lives can get broken through our own choices and/or that of others. There is a story in the Bible that compares God to a potter. We are the soft moist clay that is on His wheel being shaped into whatever He desires.

The potter doesn’t only create; He also fixes broken things. God takes the broken pieces of our lives and reshapes us with His loving hands. But, before He can do that, you have to be willing to give Him the pieces: your anger, resentment, hopelessness, despair and frustration.

The Victimized

Even though we know that God gives all of us free will, it is still hard to understand why bad things happen. When you’re the victim, you want to find justice for your suffering. The first step begins with your relationship to God.

Getting a guilty verdict from the courts doesn’t necessarily make the pain or the nightmares go away. God works on your heart to help you deal with the situation so that you are can continue to live victoriously.

The Trapped

Have you ever felt trapped in your life? After a while, it seems like you are on auto-pilot and just going through the motions. “Stop the world, I want to get off!”

God can use His transforming power to free you. To truly live a different life, add God to it. He will meet you were you are right now and work from the inside out to affect your emotions, thoughts, speech and your eternal soul.

The Anxious

With the state of the world today, people are worried. They worry about their jobs, homes, families, crime, health care and the like. Jesus told His disciples that they would encounter tribulations in their life but to remain hopeful because the end of the story had already been written. What that means is even though the world is in turmoil at times; your security is assured through God.

As a loving Father, He provides all of our needs when we need them. Take your concerns to God through prayer and trust Him for the outcome. No matter what you see or hear from others, the God of your life is working things out behind the scenes.

The Lost

There is a parable in the Bible about a lost sheep (Luke 15:4-6). When the shepherd realized the sheep was lost, he left the other ones in a safe place and expended his energy looking for the lost one. Once he found the sheep, he cradled him and rejoiced.

God doesn’t want any of His children to wander around in a daze. When you don’t know what to believe or who to turn to that might be how you feel. If you feel lost, pray. Believe that God can help you and He will. He unfolds the correct path before you one step at a time.

Are you worried that God doesn’t understand your situation? Then, tell Him. He already knows but He wants to hear it all from you, good and bad.

Additional Scriptures:

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

-          Philippians 4:6

Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,

“I will take revenge;
I will pay them back”
]
says the Lord.

-          Romans 12:19

A New Year to Get in Agreement with God

January 5, 2010 by Robert
Filed under Christian Articles, trust in god

When the ball drops at midnight, millions of us make promises.  We swear that this will be the year we will quit smoking, lose 50 pounds, write that novel, get out of debt, eat healthy,  take that dream vacation along with other New Year Resolutions.  Memberships skyrocket in gyms all over the country.

By March of each year, the gyms are empty again.  These promises are too easy to make, and too easy to fail to keep.  We fail to follow through, in part, because we set these lofty goals, and we don’t get organized.  Goals are difficult to achieve if we don’t make a plan.  Failing to plan is planning to fail, right?

What if this was your year to get right with God?  This year, don’t just say it – make a plan.

Baby steps get you where you where you need to go.  So, what might those baby steps be?  It depends on where you are in your walk with God.  If you feel like you’re about a mile off the path, consider simply stepping onto the path.  The easiest way to do this is to simply pray.  You don’t need a form prayer; you don’t need to “know how to pray.”  Just simply talk to God, as if He were your friend.  Maybe make a resolution to spend five minutes a day talking to God.  This could be done on your commute to work, or in the shower, or when you walk the dog.  Or, make a commitment to begin each day in prayer.  After you hit the snooze button, spend the next few minutes talking to God, as you prepare to face your day.

If you already pray regularly, consider aiming your resolution at the Bible.  Many people resolve to read the Bible in a year.  This is an achievable goal, if you go at it with a plan.  Divide the Bible into 365 sections.  There are many books, devotionals, and websites to help you do this.  Or, you could simply resolve to spend 5 minutes, or 30 minutes, in the Word each day.  Promise yourself that you will read one chapter every morning, or one chapter each night, before you go to bed.

Maybe you feel that your walk with God is lacking in service?  If that is the case, vow to spend more of your time in service to others, and therefore in service to God.  Find a volunteer organization, or speak to a pastor about where your gifts could be best used.  Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s workmanship, that we are created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Maybe this is your year to find out what it is that God has prepared for you to do.

Maybe you feel convicted to get right with God financially?  If this is the case, vow to give a percentage of your budget back to God.  Maybe there’s something in your life that is standing between you and God?  Maybe this is the right time to get rid of that something.

Whatever you choose to do, take baby steps.  God doesn’t want you to fail at your walk with Him, so He will help you, if you open yourself up to His help, and ask Him for it.  Ask Him to point you in the right direction and then to guide your (baby) steps.

Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”  Make this your year.  Make this God’s year.  It is never too late to get in agreement with your Lord.  God will give you the strength you need to follow through. Get in agreement with God and make this year your best ever.

If You Seek God, He Will Show Up

September 16, 2009 by Robert
Filed under Christian Articles, trust in god

Have you ever looked for something and thought you knew where it was but still couldn’t find it? It can be frustrating. When you search for God, you won’t be disappointed in this way.

Right now you might be saying, “How can I find God if He is invisible?” God is a spirit who one day, we will see as He is. For right now, God uses believers to speak to each other and to non-believers. They deliver the message that God wants you to hear. It is thought the obedience of Christ’s followers that God speaks to us.

But, God is not limited to one method of communication. He is the Master of the Universe. He spoke to Moses through a burning bush. Nothing is beyond Him. He spoke to Joseph the carpenter through dreams.

God is not a “respecter of persons.” This means that He will do the same thing for you that He does for others. All of His promises are universal and for everyone. He may not bless you  both in the same way, but He will bless you.

Where is God then? He is as close as your heart. To find Him, read His word and pray to Him. You can get down on your knees or call out to Him while you are sitting at the kitchen table. God wants to hear from you as much as you want to hear from Him. Talk to Him like He was sitting right next to you.

God is not a magic genie. He will answer our prayers but he will not jump out of a lamp in your living room and present you with what you want. God desires more for you than just giving you everything that you desire. He wants to teach you to be like His son, Jesus.

God will show up when you search for Him, but will you know it? Think of it like having a radio. Even with the radio in your possession, it is of no use to you unless you can hear it. You will be no closer to knowing God if you can’t hear His voice.

The book of James, chapter 4, verse 2 says that “we have not because we ask not” (paraphrase). Give God a try. You have nothing to lose and everything in heaven to gain. Ask Him to come into your life and heal your hurts. Ask Him to help you find work to support your family. Ask Him to take away your sinful nature and make you like Christ.

The only requirement that God makes is that you seek Him with your entire heart. When God has your heart, He can use your heart to distinguish His voice. You will hear His answers to your prayers through the preacher on Sunday morning, the apology from someone who has hurt you, the job offer that seemed to come out of nowhere or the friend who offers their support when you are ill. God uses people but only your heart will let you know that it is God blessing you through them.

Exercise your faith. Call on God right now and believe that you will see Him work in your life.

Additional Scriptures:

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

-Matthew 7:7-8

…………

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

-Proverbs 3:5-6

………….

Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living.

-Psalm 27:13

When Someone You Love Has Cancer

August 24, 2009 by Robert
Filed under Christian Articles, trust in god

A diagnosis of cancer doesn’t just affect the patient but their family and friends as well. When someone you love is stricken with cancer, your emotions run the gamut: anger, disbelief, sorrow and fear. In order to cope, you must lean on God.

Anyone who has ever cared for a sick person knows the sheer amount of physical strength that you need to possess to meet their needs. This doesn’t include taking care of your own self and family. It is a tall order that many wouldn’t change for anything in the world.

Still, the task can be exhausting even when done out of love. That doesn’t even include your mental and spiritual health throughout it all. God alone is the source of unending strength and power to accomplish anything that is put before you. When you feel that you can’t clean another sheet, fix another meal or run another errand, God is there to fill you with what you need to keep going.

Your Loved One with Cancer

When you find out that someone has cancer, your first impression is to see them differently. Years ago, the word “cancer” seemed to be a death sentence. Ongoing research has commuted that sentence. More and more people are living longer and fighting for their lives. Your loved one deserves the same hope and you are the one to give it to them.

The last thing that any cancer patient needs is to feel that they have one foot in the grave. It may not be your intention, but your actions can make them feel this way. Not letting them get out of bed, treating them like a child, asking about wills and other arrangements or simply looking at them with that pained face saps their hope for recovery. It’s not easy to stop helping them according to your feelings, but that is where God comes to the rescue.

Let the Lord guide your thoughts, emotions and actions. See your loved one the way that God sees them. When they want to talk, you sit down and listen. And, don’t listen with the audience in your head commenting on every word. Listen with your whole heart and really understand what you are being told.

Cancer patients have done their homework. They have seen the doctors for second opinions; they have looked into the treatment options; they have cried countless tears over the diagnosis and their life. The last thing that they want to hear from you is more advice. Listening and responding with your heart are the two things it is imperative that you learn to do.

While you are hurting, this situation is not about you. It is about them. Allow God to use you as He sees fit in the life of your family member or friend. Only He knows what that person truly needs and how to give it to them.

Let God Strengthen You to be a True Blessing

You want to help. You may even tell your loved one that you will be there for them. Do you actually know what that means? Are you offering support through your emotions or because you have prayed on it?

Don’t misunderstand. God is love and He calls us to help and bear one another’s burdens. But, helping your loved one, outside of God’s planned role for you, will cause more harm than good.

Before you offer that helping hand, pray to God so that you know how He wants you to use those hands. It might not be for you to sit with them 24/7 but to be there once or twice a week and to help them in certain ways. You are probably not the only person that God wants to bring into your loved one’s life at this time.

After you pray about how to help them, ask God to fill you with what you need to do the task He is setting before you. It takes a lot of courage, strength, compassion, time and love to do what you are about to do. Don’t take for granted that you can do it out of your own strength, because you can’t.

And, while you are asking God to strengthen you, it is okay to ask them to heal your loved one. Bear in mind, that God always hears your prayers but answers them according to His will for that person. Prayer changes your heart and mindset about the situation to attune it with God’s.

Be brave and courageous.

When Your Diagnosis is Cancer, God Will Never Leave You

August 21, 2009 by Robert
Filed under Christian Articles, trust in god

A diagnosis of cancer is a terrible thing. When we hear those dreaded words, “I’m sorry, but it is cancer,” most of us immediately go into full panic mode. We wonder what we will do, we wonder how long we have to live, we wonder who will care for our children while we are sick, we wonder how much pain we will be in…and the list goes on! We “wonder,” but what we are really doing is worrying.

Any doctor will tell you that worrying won’t help and the stress of worrying too much can actually make matters worse. But even strong Christians begin to worry when facing a diagnosis like cancer. We wonder where God has gone, or why He afflicted us with cancer. The problem is, we aren’t asking the right questions and we are letting our fears overcome our faith when we ask such questions!

God doesn’t give us cancer. Repeat that thought to yourself, “God didn’t give me cancer.” It’s a truth that some of us forget. Keep in mind that God created for us a loving and beautiful world that was filled with plenty and void of pain and suffering. That world changed when man sinned and fell from God’s Grace. So we live in a world with the pain of loss and the pain of suffering. It is simply a part of living in an imperfect world!

Don’t personalize your cancer; don’t look for someone to blame. Cancer is an impersonal, random disease that has nothing to do with God and everything to do with living in a sinful, fallen world. It is simply a result of being alive in a human, imperfect world. We can’t pin our misfortunes on God, because God is always working to give us great blessings in life, despite the fallen nature of our world.

So where is God when the diagnosis is cancer? He’s right where He has always been – right by your side, ready to help you through the pain and suffering, ready to bestow His healing touch and blessings. If you want to find God, just ask Him! Once you acknowledge God and ask for His help, you will find Him. He is just waiting for you to reach out for Him!

God’s presence in the face of cancer is miraculous! He is able to be a firm and loving presence in the face of the most frightening disease in the world, and His strength and power is so overwhelming that He can grant you peace and give you comfort despite the suffering you are going through. All you need to do is have Faith – and if you have faith, you can overcome it’s great enemy, fear.

So as you come to terms with the diagnosis of cancer, remember that God is right here, waiting for you to call on Him. Don’t let fear overcome you, but pray instead for God’s healing touch and the comfort of His loving arms. He will cradle you in His love and give you all that you need to triumph over cancer. All you have to do is ask!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are my help in every need. I know that nothing is too difficult for you. Lord, I am praying for and believing in your complete healing and restoration. Help those who are caring for me; guide their hearts and hands as they tend to my body, even as you tend to my Spirit. Grant me the peace and strength I need to cope in the days ahead.

Heavenly Father, I look to you for all guidance. Continue to grant me wisdom so that I may continue to seek you above all things.

I proclaim my complete trust in you for comfort, healing, health, strength and protection.

Thank you for all that you are in my life and all that you will be in my life. Knowing and experiencing oneness with you, I experience true healing.

Thank you, Lord, for your Word and Your healing power.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Healing Scriptures

I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done”

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”

–Isaiah 41:10

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

Trusting in God to Walk Beside Us Always

July 30, 2009 by Robert
Filed under Christian Articles, trust in god

Many of us have heard the poem about the man who walked along the beach and saw a second pair of footprints in the sand. He was told the second pair of footprints was God. But then he became angry, as he realized that there were times when only one set of footprints was there. Where was God for him them? “It was then that I carried you”" God replied. Learning to have that trust in God is so valuable not only for our Faith, but also our peace of mind. When you live knowing that you are held by the hands of God at all times,  you breathe a little easier, sleep a little sounder and worry just a little less? Because you trust in God to always be there for you – and most importantly to never leave.

Psalm 71:5 says: “For You are my hope; O Lord God, You are my trust from my youth and the source of my confidence.”

Perhaps you know someone in your life that has this trust in God that I speak of and you are reminded of what a powerful source God can be. Now does this mean that life is always smooth? Does this mean that life is full of lottery jackpots and things always turning out exactly as we’d like? Well, it probably doesn’t. But when you have God in your life – that trust in God is a bigger winning than any lottery winnings ever could be. The man or the woman that wins the lottery can spend down their winnings in a year or several years. The good job you have can go away. People can and do let us down. But we can trust that God will always be there. God will be there through the storms and the rain.

But not only will God be there through the “storms and the rain,” He’ll also be there through the good times too. Sometimes it is during the bad times that we feel our Faith is the most tested. These times temptations come for us to truly live our Faith and not take an easy way out. Do you still continue to tithe your income even after getting a big raise? Or would you take a luxury vacation if it only meant lying to a loved one? When you have many of the “good things” in your life there are two types of people: the one that is eager to share this life with others and the person who is completely afraid that something could come and take this good life away from them. The person eager to share the good life trusts in God and is generous and kind. They help others in their church and community. The person who is afraid others would take “the good life” away from them through trickery not only doesn’t trust other people – but they don’t trust themselves and most importantly they don’t have that deep trust in God. If they could open their hearts to have a trust in God they would feel peace and could enjoy their good lives and would feel inspired to help others in the individual way that means the most to them — not in a way that feels forced or false.

Psalm 37:5 says “Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.” When you trust in God, you know that no matter what comes: everything will be alright. No matter what type of trouble you are carrying God will help you carry it.

What is God Teaching You During This Recession

We’re living in challenging economic times.  Some of us have lost our jobs or have to take on second jobs to make ends meet.  Many of us are now cutting corners, cutting back and even cutting our own hair to try and save money so that we have enough to pay the bills at the end of the month.  It is during times like this that we can learn an important lesson about God and His love for us.

We can’t blame God for our financial burdens.  He did not cause the current economic crisis, and recessions are brought on by man’s many mistakes and various world events.  But God isn’t surprised by the recession, either.  He is the beginning and end of all things and knows the past, present and future.  Through it all, He also knows our real needs, not the need of money and possessions that have gripped most of us in the past.  Fortunately, He is always there for us and reminds us:

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence,’ The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man to do me?’”

-   Hebrews 13:5-6

This is such a powerful Bible verse because it holds so much we can hold onto during a recession.  First, it reminds us that we must not give in to the love of money.  The more we obsess possessions and success, the farther we remove ourselves from God’s loving presence.  If we worry constantly about what our financial future holds, we are short-changing God, because if we truly believe in Him and trust in Him, we don’t have to worry at all!

All we need to do to ride out the recession is put our faith fully in God’s plan for us.  He will give us all that we need in this life, and eternal life in the next one.  But to get these rewards, we must ask for God’s guidance and protection.  We must turn away from being discouraged or fearful.

“They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.”

Psalm 112:7

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Psalm 46:10

The Psalms tell us clearly that we need not worry or fret.  We simply need to “be still,” and let the Holy Spirit provide for us and give us peace.  How do we do this in troubled times?  We remember who God is and His amazing power to transform our lives.  With the Lord granting us forgiveness of our sins and promising us eternal life in the next world, how can we be afraid of what we are facing in this world?  We can be content knowing that the Lord will provide what we need in this world and will prepare us for glory in the next.  Know these things, how can we help but be content with our lives, knowing that we have everything that we really need, and so much more!

God, Where Are You

Trusting in the Lord can be difficult during the lowest times in our lives.  Sometimes we face trials that are frightening or go through painful or sorrowful situations that make us wonder why God seems to be hiding His face from us. What we need to remember is that God isn’t hiding from us – He isn’t the reason that we have fallen on hard times or that our lives have been hit by sorrow or loss.  In fact, He is the one constant we can rely on to get us through our trials and tribulations !

When things happen in our lives that are upsetting or unfortunate , we sometimes say, God, where are you?”  Things seem to be getting worse instead of better and we wonder why God allows bad things to happen to us.  We have to keep in mind that God isn’t punishing us or  sending us trials or punishments – the world is filled with problems and troubles.  God is still present in our lives to lift us up and give us hope despite the troubles of our daily lives. We simply have to let go and let God into the events of our lives so that everything can come together in the perfect order that He has planned for us.

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in him.”
–      Nahum 1:7

The next time you are suffering, whether it is because of some personal grief, a lost job, financial worries, illness or some other issue, don’t ask God where He is. Keep in mind that God is always there for you. He is not the reason behind your suffering, but the One who will give you refuge and strength to see you through.  Pray that His love and guidance will sustain you and ask for His strength to uphold you.  Say this prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father:

I trust You.  I trust Your plan.  I trust Your goodness.  I trust what You can see and I can’t.  Heavenly Father, I trust You with all things in my life and know that You will see me through this difficult time in my life with Your loving kindness.  Thank You for being there in all things.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen”.

When you commune with the Lord, don’t ask God where He is, because He is always there, right beside you.  Instead, ask the Lord questions that can help you learn and grow as one of his children. Ask God, “What should I do, Lord, as I face these difficulties?  What do you want me to learn from my sorrows?  Will you help me to be strong in your love?”  If you remember to walk in faith and ask God the right questions, He will answer in that still, soft voice in the night that comforts you just when you thought He wasn’t there.

The world may attack us, but with God we will not be defeated.  Our life may be filled with sorrow or difficulties, but with God we will never be abandoned.  We may be brought low, but we will never be defeated – because God is always there.

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him,

to all who call on Him in truth.

He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;

He hears their cry and saves them.

The Lord watches over all who love Him.”

- Psalm 145:18-20

In, God we have unparalleled hope and courage. God is the One Presence, the One Power in the universe. The spirit of God is with us, and all is well.
