Filling the Void with God

Reading for the day: Matthew 6:33

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

Have you ever received a package? When it is delivered, the package is heavy because it is filled with something. When you remove what’s inside, the box is empty. It usually ends up thrown out with the trash.

There are people who feel that their lives are like that box. You might even feel that way. At one time, life seemed full but then what gave them purpose was taken away leaving only emptiness. Suicide is like an empty life thrown on the trash heap.

Jesus told his disciples that they would encounter all manner of problems and desperate situations in their walk with him through the world, but to hold on to hope. At the time, he knew something that they didn’t. His death would serve to break the hold that Satan and this life have on us all.

Living in this world is not for the faint of heart. Nothing, even the things that we believe to be, is ever certain. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told the listeners to store up treasures for themselves in Heaven. Now, that’s a long way to go for a storage space.

But, you don’t have to travel anywhere. The storage space is located inside of you. Think about it: Every day, we surround ourselves with things we believe will make us happy. It could be a new car, new job, friends, love interest, or even food. But, because these things are tangible, they can be taken away. In the case of a love interest, they can withdraw their love without your permission.

God offers us His way of life and all that comes with it, which no living person can strip away from us. Even in the darkest times, His joy will fill us with peace.

Prayer Suggestion:

Ask God to fill every area of your life with His true peace, love and joy.
