Reading for the Day: Psalm 119:9-11

How can a young person stay pure?
By obeying your word.
I have tried hard to find you—
don’t let me wander from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

The Apostle Paul tells us in a letter to James that God will give wisdom to anyone who asks for it. Imagine that? Getting what we need just by asking is a rarity in this life. There always seem to be some hoops to jump through or red tape to cut. With God, none of that exists.

So how do you get this wisdom from on high? It comes from studying the Word of God. King David knew this. He constantly stood in awe of God and sat in his presence to learn what He wanted from him.

God has laid out His laws, love and rules for living within the pages of the Holy Bible. Through His faithful servants, His will is revealed to us. But, reading is only the first step. Has someone ever given something to you that you have lost?

The way not to “lose” God’s Word when you need it most is to hide it in your heart. Nothing can steal it from you there unless you give it away. The Holy Spirit can bring the Word back to your mind in difficult situations when you have memorized and meditated on the scriptures. That is how you gain wisdom…everyday.

Prayer Suggestions: Draw on the resources of the scriptures to make godly decisions each day. Unless you know the Word, you won’t know God’s thoughts on a subject.
