God Wants His Very Best for You
Reading for the day: Psalms 1:1-3
“Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And on His law he meditates day and night.
His is like a tree planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in season
And whose leaf does not whither.
Whatever he does prospers.”
The psalm above clearly shows that we will, as followers of God, thrive and prosper in ways that those who are wicked or willfully sinful won’t. Some Christians are surprised by this psalm, believing that we are all called on to suffer for Christ’s sake. It may be that some of us will have to suffer, but that isn’t what God wants for us. He wants us to enjoy happiness and a good life resting in His Grace.
What stands between us and the very best that God wants for us isn’t God, but this world. When we plant our hopes in the love of money, the actions of others or even ourselves, we have pulled up our roots and planted them away from those nourishing waters that help us thrive.
When we plant our dreams and desires in God’s word so that they are nourished by His love and blessings, they can thrive, just like the tree in the first Psalm. God nourishes are lives with His love and care so that we are protected from harm and able to flourish in this world despite the problems surrounding us.
Remember today that God wants the very best for us and will provide it to anyone who lives according to His word and nourishes his soul with God’s promises.
Prayer Suggestion: Thank God for his loving care for you and His gift of all the best that He has to offer. Ask Him to bless you with the best that He has for you, and devote your life to His word in thanks.
