Reading for the day: Psalm 55:22

Cast your cares upon the Lord

and He will sustain you;

He will never let the righteous fall.

but you, O God, will bring down the wicked

into the pit of corruption;

bloodthirsty and deceitful men

will not live out half their days.

But as for me, I trust in You.”

The world is a fallen place, filled with sorrows of every kind.  Sometimes we face a true tragedy, such as the death of a dear friend or loved one.  We may also face stressful, sad situations such as the loss of a job, the ending of a precious relationship, foreclosure on a home or bad news from our doctor.

Does this mean God doesn’t care?  Not at all!  In the Bible we learn that God actually watches over our destiny to such an extent that He is ready and waiting to sustain you and take you through any kind of suffering imaginable.  He promises that the righteous will never fall, that your suffering is only momentary and will come to an end, while the wicked will not recover.

What a wonderful blessing to know that God will never let us receive bad news without also promising to sustain and strengthen us.  Despite the worst the world can throw at us, He will never let you fall!  If you can live like the writer of the Psalm, who admits to God, “I trust in You,” you will always find the strength to triumph over whatever sorrows come your way.
The key is trusting in God, not yourself, to give you the strength and guidance you need to survive and move beyond bad news.  If you can put Him in charge during the worst of times, you will have your reward in the better times ahead.

Prayer Suggestion: Lay at God’s feet whatever bad news or sorrow is weighing on you.  Let go of your need to control everything and simply trust fully in God to sustain you.  Ask God to see and understand your sorrow and to give you the strength you need to move forward.
