Pray Bold Prayers

Reading for the Day:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6

A friend of mine recently said to me, “How can I pray about me finding a job when there are thousands of people out there without jobs?”  This line of thinking can be extended in many different directions.  How can we pray for a new church roof when thousands of people are homeless?  How can we pray for our children when there are thousands of starving orphans in Africa?

These questions can truly boggle our mind.  That’s why we need to rid our minds of these questions, and give them to God.  We can pray about the church roof and about the homeless people because God instructs us, through the apostle Paul, to pray about everything.

We don’t honestly know what is and isn’t important to God.  We don’t yet know the full scope of His plan.  By limiting our prayers, we are assuming that we do know God’s mind.

God wants us to pray about everything, the large and the small.  He wants us to lay it all on Him.  This is one of the reasons I love to listen to children pray.  They haven’t yet learned to be presumptuous enough to suggest what God wants them to pray about.  They just pray from their hearts.  I’ve heard a little girl ask God to protect the shadows on her walls and  a little boy pray for his beloved dog.
We can ask God to end wars.  We can ask Him to cure cancer.  We can ask Him for a new church roof.  That is the beauty of the power of prayer.  It is through Christ we are strong, and it should be through prayer that we are bold.

Prayer Suggestion: “Dear Lord, please help me to be honest with You and pray what’s really on my heart.”
