God has Wired Us All So Differently

Reading for the Day: 1 Corinthians 12: 4-6

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.”

Have you ever been told that you are different? It may have hurt at first. The goal of every person seems to be conformity. No one wants to “stick out” in the crowd.

God challenges us to not conform but allow Him to transform us with His purpose. For want of being the same, people have taken their lives, committed crimes and denied associations. Look at Peter. He didn’t want to be associated with Jesus so he denied knowing Him to the crowd.

God did not create us all to be the same. The apostle Paul tells compares believers to a giant body. The body has different parts that must work together so that the entire body can move. Without the feet you couldn’t walk. Without the head, you couldn’t do anything.

Further on in the chapter, Paul talks about the gifts that God gives to us through the Spirit. The main point here is that the Spirit decides who receives what gift. If God has taken such care to choose who you will be, who are you to deny that in the face of mankind?

It is an honor to be loved and used by God. The fact that such an awesome God can use us is monumental. Your contribution in this life is important to Him. When people peg you as different, just smile and tell God “thank you.”

Prayer Suggestions: Ask God to show you who He wants you to be.

The God Challenge – Are You Being Fruitful?

Reading for the day: Philippians 2:1-4

“ Now if you have known anything of Christ’s encouragement and of his reassuring love; if you have known something of the fellowship of his Spirit, and of compassion and deep sympathy, do make my joy complete–live together in harmony, live together in love, as though you had only one mind and spirit between you. Never act from motives of rivalry or personal vanity, but in humility think more of each other than you do of yourselves.  None of you should think only of his own affairs, but consider other people’s interests also.”

God doesn’t want us to simply love Him in our hearts.  He also wants us to show the world, through every act and deed as well as our words, our loving relationship with Him.  Many times people who aren’t Christians look at those who are and think, “They talk about dedication to God, but they are a lot of talk and not much action.”

Look at your life today and ask yourself, “Was I a blessing to others today?  Did I demonstrate my love of the Lord to others through how I treated them?  Was I truly fruitful, or was I simply busy?”

There is a big difference between keeping ourselves busy with activities that are centered on our own desires and truly being fruitful Christians who are cultivating His love on earth.  God challenges us every day to look beyond simply getting through each day and work toward making each day an opportunity to help others, bless others and pray for others.  Have you taken up God’s challenge today?

Prayer Suggestion: Pray for others before yourself.  Ask the Lord to reveal to you ways that you can be fruitful in your everyday life, dedicating yourself to “thinking more of others than yourself.”
