God What Do I Need to Change About Me Today?

Reading for the day: Psalm 51:10-12
Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a loyal spirit within me.
11 Do not banish me from your presence,
and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you.
King David knew when he had displeased the Lord. His first act was to repent and ask God to change his heart. Maybe you are like King David today.
Repentance and change are not one-time acts. As long as you live in a fallen world, repentance is needed to keep us shining for Christ. It is easy for our stars to get tarnished especially when we decide that our way is better than God’s choice for us. It will happen from time to time because we are human.
The great thing about God is that He is always ready to forgive when we come to Him in heartfelt repentance. But, repentance has to be followed by a change to be genuine. To do that, you have to recognize within yourself that living in bondage (a slave to your sinful nature) is worse than living in freedom through Christ.
Each day brings a new opportunity to “renew your mind.” Change the way you think and act by staying connected to God and in tune with the Holy Spirit. Is God asking you to change some aspect of your life? If so, get to it. The rewards will far outweigh anything you would get by holding on to sin.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord, reveal to me any hidden sin in my life. Help me to obey and not fight as you work to wash me clean.

Learning to Experience God Every Day

Reading for the day: Romans 12: 9-21
“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
Our lives are so chaotic at times. If it is not our activities that are running us around it is our family. Sometimes, you have to stop and smell the roses to appreciate why you are alive. It’s not to run ourselves ragged everyday for sure.
Being busy with tasks, even godly ones, can make us too busy for God. God, where were you when I was caught in traffic or struggling to make dinner after a hectic day? Does that sound like you? God was waiting for you to slow down so He could spend time with you.
The above scriptures are only three of the thirteen mentioned in the daily reading. The idea here is ways to imitate Christ in your life. Just the first few verses sounds like a lot to do. You are used to doing a lot but this task list won’t make you tired but aware of God’s goodness all around you.
Try it. When you serve God on your job or thank Him that you have a tank of gas in traffic or bless Him for the bounty of food in your home, you gain a new perspective on the day. God thought enough of you to make you aware of His love at every turn.
Prayer Suggestion: Make a conscious effort to thank God throughout the day for the evidence of Him in your life.
