Trials and Joy

Reading for the Day 2 Peter 2:9

“…the Lord knows how to rescue the godly out of temptations and trials”

Trials are a natural part of our life. None of us can escape them. However, the way we endure or go through trials makes a great difference. Some people, falling into trials start complaining. This is the way to getting bitter and ungrateful in life. Others fall into depression, when facing trials in life. You risk  losing more, than is necessary, going through tough times in your life.

The best way to go through trials, since we have to, is to go through them with faith in your heart. Even if we do not understand why or what is going on in our lives, we can always be sure, the Lord knows everything and stays in control. Always. He knows how to guide us out of those trials and temptations.

Preserving hopeful and grateful attitude, when being tried in life, you benefit greatly. This way, you can learn your lesson and upgrade to a new level of faith and new quality of life, after being tried and tested. Attitude is one of the core things to attend to during trials. This is what can keep you filled with joy, instead of sorrow. Joy and hope in the Lord are the things, that cannot be stolen from us, unless we let them to be stolen.

Prayer Suggestion: When you get into trials, do not start asking questions in prayer. Rather pray for your faith to be strengthened. You may not understand why, but you know WHO is in control. Pray for the joy of the Lord to strengthen you and show you the way out of any situation.

God Is With Us in Dark Times

Reading for the Day: Psalm 23:4 (NIV)

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

Most of us have faced dark times. Many of us are facing dark times right now. But as we go through these dark times, it is important to remember that we needn’t be afraid. Because even though we face darkness, God is still right there with us.

God tells us throughout the Bible that He will never leave us or forsake us. Just like a shepherd, God keeps us safe. He protects us from the darkness and all the threats that the darkness holds. With His metaphorical rod and staff, He guides us and protects us from predators. We are safe with God. Even though we walk through darkness, even though we face seemingly hopeless situations, we don’t have anything to be afraid of.

As Paul writes in Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” God is for us. We are His children. He wants to take care of us, to keep us safe, to protect us. And He does.

Psalm 46:1 calls God “an ever-present help in trouble.” As we learn to live in this world, He is with us. As we walk down dark paths, He is with us. As we face grief, disappointments, financial hardships, addictions, illnesses, and the unfairness of life, He is with us. For eternity.

All we need to do is love Him, trust Him, and enjoy the peace and security that knowing Him brings. And when we do face dark times, how powerful that peace and security becomes!

Prayer Suggestion:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for always being there, for being here right now. Help me to feel Your presence. Please help me through the dark times in life and allow them to bring me closer to You. Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

God Knows What’s Best

Reading for the Day: Psalm 27:5

For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.

What is it that our parents tell us? They know what is best for us. Even as an adult, your parents may tell you this. Why? They are older and have had more experiences than we have.

It can be irritating to hear, mostly because they may have a point…at times. But, we want to live our own lives in our own way, even if that means making mistakes. At least we would have made a decision on our own.

Well, there is One who is much older than our parents. When He says that He knows best, you can believe it. God created us and the world before that. He has seen thousands of lifetimes come and go. Relying on Him means taking all that knowledge into account and trusting His judgment.

God has an advantage over our parents. While they both love us without reservation, God can see a lot further down the road than they can. Parents, as well meaning as they are, can only guess at the outcome. On the other hand, God knows what will happen as a consequence of every decision that we make.

Trust Him to lead you down the right path in every area of your life: financial, romantic, spiritual, familial and emotional. At the crossroads of the journey, He always knows which way to go.

Prayer Suggestions: God, guide me each and every day to make the choices that will honor You.

God is With You Always

Reading for the Day:  Matthew 28:20

“Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Remember when you were young and your friends challenged you to a dare? Maybe it was to walk up to the house of the scariest neighbor in town and ring the doorbell. The scariest part was that you had to do it alone.

You may not be ringing any scary doorbells in the moonlight, but there are situations that we encounter that we would rather not face alone: divorce, death of a family member, eviction, new job, and new location. Just having someone there makes all the difference.

Friends can do a lot of things but they can’t be everywhere at once. Today your friend may be able to accompany you to court but two weeks from now, they may be busy. It doesn’t mean that they don’t care but they have a life to. We are, after all, only human.

But, there is someone who will be there always if you let Him. God told His disciples that even though He was sending them into unknown places to proclaim the Gospel, He would be with them. The Holy Spirit is our protector and God’s constant presence in our lives. Welcome His presence and help always but especially in difficult times when you need someone to weather the storm with you.

Prayer Suggestions: Welcome God into your life and He will stay by your side through the laughter and the tears.

The God of Impossibility

August 18, 2010 by

Reading for the Day: Ephesians 3:20

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

I like surprises don’t you? The good kind I mean. You are looking to buy a car that will get you from point A to point B (four wheels, at least two doors and a working engine) and you wind up with a new car for what you were going to spend on a basic model. Surprise!

How about this one: You are looking for a job to help pay the bills and end up with a management position at a company that you didn’t even think you were qualified to work at. Surprise!

As humans, most of us have one of two shortcomings: Either we think too much of ourselves or we think too little. Today we are focused on those who think too little. God created us in His image as His children. For this loving Father, He wants the best for us.

As Creator of the Universe, the world is literally at His feet. We can ask for anything so why do we insult Him by asking for so little? Do we think He can’t provide the top-notch job or the best car on the lot?

No matter how impossible our situation seems, that doesn’t have a thing to do with our God. Don’t look at how big the problem is; look at how big your God is. For His children there is nothing that He wouldn’t or couldn’t give us. The sky’s the limit!

Prayer Suggestions: When you go before the throne of grace, ask God for what you want. Anything less is an insult.

God Loves You as His Greatest Creation

July 31, 2010 by

Reading for the day:  Genesis 1:26-28

“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground….’”

We sometimes tremble before God when we’ve done wrong, or are afraid to go to Him with our burdens.  We may even turn from praising Him because we look at His many wonders and feel insignificant.  But this goes against everything that He has told us about His love for us.

God created us in His image. Imagine that!  He created us as a reflection of Himself – we are the greatest of all His creations, more powerful and beautiful and more wonderfully made than anything He created, including the sun and planets and all of the amazing varieties of plants, animals and creatures He has ever made.

God even told us to, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.” He didn’t choose any other creature for this momentous task.  So the next time you feel small in God’s eyes, remember that you are truly wonderfully made and cherished as God’s image on earth.

Prayer Suggestion: Thank the Lord for His creation and your special role in it.  Promise that You will return the blessing of being created in His image by bringing glory and honor to your Creator.

Christian Youth – God has a Bright Future for You

October 28, 2009 by
Filed under Christian Articles, Christian Youth

We live in a confusing and changing world. With so much discord and unhappiness swirling around it can sometimes feel impossible to lead a truly Christian life. When our political and social leaders are making great missteps and failing to succeed as being an example of good Christian living, it is easy to get discouraged. Despair not though, as a Christian you need not look to those around you to feel God’s love or for a good example. Know that your Heavenly Father wants only the best for you as a Christian youth, and that He provides you with all that you will ever need to succeed.

” For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord . They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

– Jeremiah 29:11

The times that Jesus Christ lived in were no less tumultuous than the times we live in now. Through his actions and great love for man, God showed the people of that time what it meant to be a Christian. God sacrificed his only begotten son, so that we would be able to love one another as God loves us and that we would fulfill his wishes by leading a good Christian life. The Christian youth of today is blessed with the opportunity to live in a time that you can do so much good in sharing God’s word. Know that you are blessed and have the power to help others by setting a good example of Christian living.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

–Philippians 4:13

Living your life as a good Christian means accepting others even though they may be different. The Christian youth of today can make a radical and lasting difference in the world by living their lives as God would want; by leading by example and by demonstrating that a good Christian life is a full one. Family, friends and God’s word are the greatest gifts that one can ever share and are all the rewards that come from Christian living. We are so blessed to have God’s great love in our lives. How better to honor that love than to share it with others who may be living in darkness?

“Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them ,because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”

– Deuteronomy 31:6

Armed with the great love of God, there is no obstacle that you cannot overcome. Being a Christian offers you so many opportunities to share God’s word and God’s love. Don’t be afraid to be overjoyed at the great gift you have as a Christian youth. Know that, no matter what trial you are facing, God’s love will see you through. Stick to your beliefs, and live your life as God has commanded and you will reap the rewards of a good Christian life. Even in your darkest hour your great faith and Christian living will light your soul and fill you with a great peace, knowing that you are never alone.

“The Lord will guide you continually”

–Isaiah 58:11

God, Show Me How to Love Again

August 17, 2009 by

Reading for the day:  Proverbs 3:3-6

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you;

bind them around your neck,

write them on the tablet of your heart.

Then you will win favor and a good name

In the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

And lean not on the ways of your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He will make your paths straight.”

After the death of a relationship or the end of a marriage, you may feel hurt, angry and betrayed.  We enter into loving relationships believing they will last forever, and then have our hearts mortally wounded by betrayal or loss of love.  How do we learn to love again after that kind of loss?

You must, as God asks us to, put your trust and faith in God rather than man.  Keep in mind that you are still a wonderful, beautiful creature of the Lord, worthy of love.  Continue to love those around you and remain faithful to God.  This can be hard to do when we are angry and want to find someone to blame or punish the person who hurt us, but this only prolongs our pain.

Instead, learn to let go of those feelings so that your own heart is healed and you can learn to love again.  Be slow to anger and quick to forgive.  The Lord desires our forgiveness of others even as He forgives us.  It’s a tall order when we feel betrayed, but if we don’t forgive, our hearts soon turn to stone, an infertile field for the seeds of love.  If we soften our hearts and open them to others, the seeds of a new love will find a place to take root and grow.

If you trust in God rather than trusting in your own ways, you will realize that you don’t have to punish or be angry at the person who hurt you; you can leave all of the decisions about the other person’s life in God’s hand.  Once you turn over your desire to hurt them and instead give them compassion, your heart will begin to heal.  Once your heart begins to heal, you will be naturally learn to love again.

Prayer Suggestion: Let go of your desire to revenge and your anger toward the person who betrayed your love.  Turn over that person and his troubles to God, praying for forgiveness and peace for both yourself and the person who hurt you.  Ask God to soften your aching heart so that the seeds of love can be planted there.
