You Cannot Hide Your Sins from God

Reading for the day: Proverbs 28:13

“He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”

Have you done something that you know is wrong in God’s eyes?  Have you confessed your sin with a contrite heart, or are you avoiding the issue, hoping the problem will go away?

Toddlers often do this.  They may take a cookie they weren’t allowed to have, or push down a playmate.  When we ask them if they did it, they look innocent and say, “No!  Not me!” even when we saw them do it.  As parents, we know that we can’t let them get away with lying about what happened, because even if they deny it, they did something wrong and they must admit it and learn from their mistake.  We may even say, “It’s okay that you pushed your sister, but lying about it is wrong.  I’d rather you tell me the truth even if you did something bad than lie to me.”

Then why do we so often try to ignore our own sins?  Perhaps we’ve fudged a bit on our tax return, or gossiped behind someone’s back.  Maybe we have cheated on our spouse or been unfair to our children.  But whatever the sin, we cannot hide them from God.  Like a watchful parent, He sees our sins even if we don’t acknowledge them ourselves.  But we need to confess them openly and honestly; only then will we learn from our mistakes and gain God’s mercy and forgiveness.  God asks us to confess so that we can move on – the burden of a ‘hidden’ sin is one we don’t have to carry.

Prayer Suggestion:  If you have been avoiding confession of your sins, don’t wait another day.  Lay all of them before God and ask for His mercy and forgiveness.

Christian Youth – God has a Bright Future for You

We live in a confusing and changing world. With so much discord and unhappiness swirling around it can sometimes feel impossible to lead a truly Christian life. When our political and social leaders are making great missteps and failing to succeed as being an example of good Christian living, it is easy to get discouraged. Despair not though, as a Christian you need not look to those around you to feel God’s love or for a good example. Know that your Heavenly Father wants only the best for you as a Christian youth, and that He provides you with all that you will ever need to succeed.

” For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord . They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

– Jeremiah 29:11

The times that Jesus Christ lived in were no less tumultuous than the times we live in now. Through his actions and great love for man, God showed the people of that time what it meant to be a Christian. God sacrificed his only begotten son, so that we would be able to love one another as God loves us and that we would fulfill his wishes by leading a good Christian life. The Christian youth of today is blessed with the opportunity to live in a time that you can do so much good in sharing God’s word. Know that you are blessed and have the power to help others by setting a good example of Christian living.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

–Philippians 4:13

Living your life as a good Christian means accepting others even though they may be different. The Christian youth of today can make a radical and lasting difference in the world by living their lives as God would want; by leading by example and by demonstrating that a good Christian life is a full one. Family, friends and God’s word are the greatest gifts that one can ever share and are all the rewards that come from Christian living. We are so blessed to have God’s great love in our lives. How better to honor that love than to share it with others who may be living in darkness?

“Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them ,because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”

– Deuteronomy 31:6

Armed with the great love of God, there is no obstacle that you cannot overcome. Being a Christian offers you so many opportunities to share God’s word and God’s love. Don’t be afraid to be overjoyed at the great gift you have as a Christian youth. Know that, no matter what trial you are facing, God’s love will see you through. Stick to your beliefs, and live your life as God has commanded and you will reap the rewards of a good Christian life. Even in your darkest hour your great faith and Christian living will light your soul and fill you with a great peace, knowing that you are never alone.

“The Lord will guide you continually”

Christian Youth – God Understands You

October 26, 2009 by
Filed under Christian Articles, Christian Youth

Christian youth, our God is a loving and merciful God. The things that you are going through may seem so much bigger than you, but God is bigger still. God understands everything about you. He understands what you are going through. God understands how you feel and He understands the things that are going on in your head. And God believes in you. He believes that you will fulfill all of the things that He has destined you to fulfill. God believes that you will overcome the obstacles in your life. These obstacles have been created in the world by sin. Sin broke unlimited man’s fellowship with God. Jesus gave that fellowship back to us and with it comes the ability to live victoriously. God has a plan for you to live victoriously and God believes that you will jump into the fullness of your destiny.

“The Lord will guide you continually.”

–Isaiah 58:11

Do not let people make you think that Christian living is “un-cool”, because it is not. God loves you and wants to have a close, intimate relationship with you. If you feel like no one else understands you and that know one else believes in you, then know that God understands you and He believes in you. He will never leave you or forsake you. God planned your destiny before you were even born. Your destiny is God’s successful plan for your life. God understands what you are going through and what you are feeling. He even understands how discouraged you can get. But, He gave you a way out of that discouragement. He has hope for you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and He will direct your paths. Lean on God, call out to God and He will answer you. God loves you so much.

“Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid or dismayed”.

– 1 Chronicles 22:13

You are a Christian youth and that means that you have chosen to live for God, according to the Bible. You may not be able to do the things that you see other youth do, but God understands your feelings. He has given you the grace to be able to live for him. The Bible says that nothing can separate you from God’s love. No matter what you have done or where you have been, God will always accept you with his arms wide open. God understands. He wants to be your best friend. Gods love is unconditional. He will always love you no matter what you do. Go to God and tell Him that you love Him and ask Him to help you live for Him.

Know that God understands you. He understands your strengths and your flaws, and He has given you the strength to withstand temptation. No matter what you do God will always understand and love you. God made you. The Bible says that God formed you when in the womb and that he knew you even then. There is no one else who can love you more than God. Be encouraged and walk in the promises that God has for you. No matter what obstacles come your way: God believes in your ability to overcome and He loves you.

“Remember , I am with you always , to the end of the age”.

Matthew 28:20

“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.”

How to Pray Effectively: Seven Steps to Answered Prayers

June 17, 2009 by
Filed under Christian Articles, Christian Living

There is power in prayer; it has no boundaries or borders, but many of us aren’t sure how to get started or what to say.  Prayer is simply having a conversation with God.  This sounds intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be.  Having the right ingredients or elements in your prayers are much more important than whether they sound fancy or elegant.  In fact, you can talk to God just like you would talk to a parent or best friend.  So forget about how you say it, and focus on what you want and need to say.

The Bible talks about “petitioning” God in prayer – this means to earnestly plea or implore.  To “present your requests” to God is simply to tell Him specifically what you need.  Praying about each worry or need in your life shuts out worry because it invites God to be involved in every area of your life, and when He is engaged in each aspect of your life, there is nothing to fear.

Here are seven steps that can help you pray more effectively and deepen the relationship you have with your Lord:

1. Acknowledge your personal relationship with God as His child. Recognize that God is holy and powerful and give Him the reverence that He deserves.  Having a loving relationship with God is like that between a parent and child.

2. Acknowledge your respect for who God is. Commit your life to God each day, promising to live according to His will.  Praise God during prayer and throughout your day, becoming absorbed in Him.

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

- John 15:7

3. Confess your sins. It is so important to ask God to forgive your sins and ask Him to continue to love and care for you.  Repentance is a sign of your understanding that you have – like all of us have – broken God’s commands, and are sorry for what you have done.  By acknowledging that our sins have separated us temporarily from God, we are once again brought closer to Him.

4. Ask God in prayer. Many of us feel guilty if we ask God for anything, fearing that we aren’t worthy and that we are being demanding, or that we might anger God.  It is just the opposite – by asking God, we are acknowledging that we can’t do it alone; we are recognizing our need for His divine intervention and showing that we trust in Him to help us.  Nothing could make God happier!

5. Be Specific. Prayers can be quite general, asking for blessings from the Lord, but it is okay to be specific, too.  When we ask the Lord to help us find a better job, resolve a problem with our spouse or anything else that is personal to us, we are opening our innermost hearts to Him.  This personal, private kind of prayer asking for specific help tells God that we have faith in Him to watch over us in small ways as well as big ones.  He wants to be the Lord of our lives in all things large and small, so it is fine to pray to find a way to get a new dryer if yours breaks down!

6. Have an attitude of Expectancy and Faith. Trust that God can answer any prayer.  Have faith that god will hear you when you pray according to His will.  Do not pray in fear or out of desperation because “nothing else has worked.”  Pray confidently, with the faith that God will fulfill your expectations in the best way possible for you, born out of His divine wisdom.

“Listen to me!  You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will have it.”

– Mark 11:24

7. Pray in Jesus’ name. When we pray in Jesus’ name, we enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, God’s own son.  We are able to take full advantage of Jesus’ death on the cross as a payment for our sins by acknowledging His sacrifice in our prayers.  It also ties us to the new life of Christ’s resurrection.  The secret of our Christian life is also the secret of praying – doing all in Jesus’ name.

“Whatever you ask in my name, that I will do.”

-   John 14:13

Every prayer is important. Every prayer counts. Our prayers exalts Him for who He is. There is power in prayer. In His presence is where we will find our  greatest blessings.
