God Does not have a Plan B

Reading for the Day: Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

In our world there is something called a “contingency plan.” In case our first efforts don’t work out, we have another plan to fall back on. You are hedging your bets so to speak.

God’s doesn’t have a contingency plan nor does He need one. That alone makes some people suspicious of Him. What if this God thing doesn’t work out? What if I can’t keep from sinning? What then?

In the book of Jeremiah, God uses the prophet to reassure the people. They were living in troubled times. Jerusalem had been destroyed but God was not going to leave them destitute. If they chose to follow Him again, He would restore them.

God is giving that same message to you today. Turn from your sinful living and embrace His Word. Even in our waywardness God has a plan for our lives but it can’t be realized until we surrender our plans for His.

When you were growing up, your parents made the decisions for you. You didn’t think about “Plan B” because you trusted them. Remember that child-like trust when you think of your Heavenly Father. He will carry you through the storms of life. When you fall, He will pick you up.

Instead of second guessing, go to God. Leave the heavy work to Him and rest in the knowledge that He has it all under control.

Prayer Suggestions: It is not easy to trust. But as you live for God day by day, He will show you that He is all that you need.

Christian Youth – God has a Bright Future for You

We live in a confusing and changing world. With so much discord and unhappiness swirling around it can sometimes feel impossible to lead a truly Christian life. When our political and social leaders are making great missteps and failing to succeed as being an example of good Christian living, it is easy to get discouraged. Despair not though, as a Christian you need not look to those around you to feel God’s love or for a good example. Know that your Heavenly Father wants only the best for you as a Christian youth, and that He provides you with all that you will ever need to succeed.

” For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord . They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

– Jeremiah 29:11

The times that Jesus Christ lived in were no less tumultuous than the times we live in now. Through his actions and great love for man, God showed the people of that time what it meant to be a Christian. God sacrificed his only begotten son, so that we would be able to love one another as God loves us and that we would fulfill his wishes by leading a good Christian life. The Christian youth of today is blessed with the opportunity to live in a time that you can do so much good in sharing God’s word. Know that you are blessed and have the power to help others by setting a good example of Christian living.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

–Philippians 4:13

Living your life as a good Christian means accepting others even though they may be different. The Christian youth of today can make a radical and lasting difference in the world by living their lives as God would want; by leading by example and by demonstrating that a good Christian life is a full one. Family, friends and God’s word are the greatest gifts that one can ever share and are all the rewards that come from Christian living. We are so blessed to have God’s great love in our lives. How better to honor that love than to share it with others who may be living in darkness?

“Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them ,because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”

– Deuteronomy 31:6

Armed with the great love of God, there is no obstacle that you cannot overcome. Being a Christian offers you so many opportunities to share God’s word and God’s love. Don’t be afraid to be overjoyed at the great gift you have as a Christian youth. Know that, no matter what trial you are facing, God’s love will see you through. Stick to your beliefs, and live your life as God has commanded and you will reap the rewards of a good Christian life. Even in your darkest hour your great faith and Christian living will light your soul and fill you with a great peace, knowing that you are never alone.

“The Lord will guide you continually”

–Isaiah 58:11

God Has Been Waiting On You

October 21, 2009 by
Filed under Christian Articles, God's Love

How does it feel when someone is waiting on you? If you are running late, you probably feel guilty about it. If it is somewhere that you don’t want to go, you may run late on purpose. But, what if God was the one waiting on you?

It’s true that God waits for us all of our lives. What is He waiting for? He is looking for His children to come back home. And, indeed, we are His children. He knew us when we were still in the womb and our own parents didn’t know who we were.

The reason God is waiting goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve had everything that their Lord had to offer and they turned their backs for one thing that they didn’t have (and really didn’t need). And today, we are still following in those ancient footsteps.

After Eden, the world was plunged into sin. Every person born was born into an unholy world. There was no way to bridge the chasm. God spoke directly to several people to accomplish His goals. But, we were still separated and it pained our Father.

But, God had a plan. He sent His only son, Jesus, into the world to be our bridge over that chasm of sin. Now, think about the gravity of His decision. Children are a part of us from the beginning. They are our life. You’d probably rather lose a limb or life itself than let your children die.

That is the length and depth and height of God’s love for us. Even His child was not spared to bring us back into relationship with Him. Jesus was born into this sinful world like the rest of us. He ate, drank, slept and had friends.

In His adult life, the three-year ministry began. Jesus knew hunger, hatred, love, pain and every other emotion we feel every day. Still, He knew that His reward would be great in heaven when He fulfilled the Father’s plan.

The very ground opened up when Jesus died. For the first time, those who hated Jesus realized who He truly was. Why does it take the ground shaking beneath some of our feet to get us to recognize God?

God stands ready to accept us back into His loving arms. The sacrifice was made once for all and the reward Jesus received as a child of the King awaits us too. Some church fans display a picture of the Savior standing at a closed door knocking. The door is the one that opens to your heart.

Some of our hearts are so hardened that nothing can get in. On the inside, there is hurt and anger barring the door. At that point, the only one who can breach the heart is Jesus.

Jesus is not a myth used to separate you from your money and possessions by television preachers. The Savior is real and if you don’t have true peace of mind in your life, then He is still standing at the door waiting on you to open it.

But, God is patient. That is how love works. When your kids go astray, you don’t cut them off like a weed in the garden. You wait tearfully, prayerfully and hopefully for them to come back to you.

Don’t be misinformed. God is tearful when we slap His helping hand away. It gets slapped away when you brick up your heart. It is slapped away when you refuse to hear the Word of God. It gets slapped whenever you give someone else the glory that belongs to Him.

God wants to shelter you in His arms. Accepting Him now means living in safety and love on this side of heaven. But He can’t do so unless you let Him in. And so, He waits for your answer until the time that you take your last breath.

God sent Jesus as a ransom to buy your freedom. Won’t you stop living in bondage to the world and accept that you can be free in Christ?

Additional Scriptures:

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”

-          Revelation 3:20

………..

Seek the Lord while you can find him.
Call on him now while he is near.
Let the wicked change their ways
and banish the very thought of doing wrong.
Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them.
Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.

-          Isaiah 55: 6-7

God is Our Sustainer

October 16, 2009 by

When you were a baby, or when your kids were babies, you probably carried them around everywhere. Mostly, it was because they couldn’t walk but also, they needed you to hold them up in certain situations so they wouldn’t get hurt. When we are no longer babies, God is the one who picks us up.

God looks after us as children and our children, but you already knew that. It’s when we get older that our faith in His goodness begins to wane. What do we know as adults that we didn’t know as children? The answer is “nothing.” Our faith dies on the vine because, instead of cultivating it, we let other philosophies and schools of thought in society nourish us. But, it isn’t nourishment at all for our souls, but confusion.

What does it mean to be “sustained by something? No matter where you find yourself, whatever sustains you is there to keep you going. A sustaining force never falters, leaves you in the lurch or fades away. Can you think of one thing on this earth that has that kind of testimonial?

Listen, anything made by the hand of man can be unmade. Just look at the Titanic, the Hindenburg or the Twin Towers. God tells us that heaven and earth may pass away, but His Word will remain intact. It is that same Word found in the Holy Bible that sustains us, if we let it.

There is one God in heaven and in earth but He has many names. Become familiar with these names and you will understand why He has them:

  • Jehovah Jireh: “I am your Provider”
  • Jehovah Shammah: “I am there”
  • Jehovah Shalom: “I am your Peace”

God is your provider. No matter what your circumstances God can work it out for you. For many of us, the problem we have is in our minds. We have these preconceived notions of how God is going to help us and when He doesn’t show up in that way, we turn away.

In His Word, He says that He will supply all of our needs from His bountiful riches. There is not a mention of how or when, but simply that He WILL. For your part, believing in his divine providence is all you have to do. Even the smallest seed of faith can grow into a giant tree.

Have you ever had a time when you worried about, let’s say, having the money to pay a bill? When you got to the payment center with your plea on your lips you find out that the bill is only a fraction of what you thought? Happily you pay the amount because that is exactly the amount that you have.

This scenario demonstrates how God is already where we need Him when we need Him. He shows up at the tire store before we do needing two new tires. He shows up at the grocery store before we do needing food. God is everywhere you need Him to be and, He is more reliable than Visa!

One thing that is hard to come by in this world is peace. Wars all across the globe, people starving, the nuclear weapons race, economic recession and crime don’t help you to sleep well at night. But, many people go to bed without this burden on their shoulders. Why? It’s not because they haven’t been touched by hard times or grief. It is rather because they have been touched by God first.

God never promised that we would be exempt from pain, sorrow, or hard times but He did promise to help us through those times if we place our trust in Him. Any adversity that we face gives God the opportunity to each us greater peace, love and understanding. Praying to God first brings comfort (through the Holy Spirit), a calm spirit and a loving embrace to ease our tears.

The Lord is now and forever more will be the Creator of the universe. As such, all power is in His hands. He gave us free will to choose our path in life and He asks that we choose to trust Him. Don’t let fear keep you from finding out how God can ease the pain of this world in your life.

Additional Scriptures:

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

-          1 Peter 5:7

…..

“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

-          Deuteronomy 31:8

…..

“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”

-          2 Corinthians 9:8

Every Problem Ends with God

October 12, 2009 by

The Bible tells us that God is the “Alpha and the Omega.” In Greek, those two letters represent the beginning and the ending of the alphabet. If life begins and ends with God, it stands to reason that there is nothing that has ever been or ever will be that escapes His knowledge.

Ostriches are interesting birds. They are thought to be flightless but can actually run fast and get a few inches off the ground. They also are the victims of a popular myth. It is believed that they bury their heads in the sand but actually they are tending to their nests.

God has also been the victim of many myths. For one, that He allows bad things to happen to people. It may seem that way to unbelievers, but actually God has given us free will to do as we please. It just so happens that there are a lot of people who don’t want to follow Him and would rather do evil.

Another myth is that God doesn’t care about our problems. Anyone who knows God for who He is knows that that this one is a load of hogwash. Our biggest problem was being eternally separated from Him and He made the ultimate sacrifice to solve it.

Problems are situations that we haven’t figured out yet. There was a cute saying on a bookmark once that read, “This is not a problem; it is an opportunity.” Anyone who has ever had a serious problem probably didn’t consider it an opportunity for anything but screaming.

There is some truth to this quote, though. For God, our problems are opportunities for His glory to become manifest in our lives. Your problem can be a window through which someone else sees God at work. For people who believe the myths about God, it is an eye-opening experience.

For your problems to become God’s teaching tool, you have to be on board with God. He has the capability to help anyone with a solution to their problem IF they would trust and give their lives to Him. Daily the Lord watches helplessly as people are crushed under the weight of their own turmoil and despair because they won’t ask for His help.

Don’t mistake God’s helplessness for weakness. We are the ones who are tying His hands. Denying God is like telling Him that you don’t want His divine assistance.

God did not create us to operate alone. Why do you think we have arms? They fit well when linked together. How about hands? Fingers intertwine to show love and concern. And, just look at those legs and feet. They work in tandem to carry us along side as many as will go with us.

When others don’t come to God on their own with their problems, He sends ambassadors. That’s us. Through your example, they will start asking questions: Why are you so highly favored?

One of the best things about God is that He loves all of us equally. Many people can say that but God really shows it. You can be just as highly favored as the next person when you put your trust in God. There is no need to handle those problems by yourself.

Satan is a magician. He makes us see what we want to see. But, his trickery leads not to happiness but to more, you guessed it…problems. God sheds the light at the end of the tunnel to let you know that life was not meant to be a tangled mass of never-ending dilemmas. No matter where you begin, if you end with Him, you will always have help dealing with your problems.

Additional Scriptures:

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

-          Matthew 6:33

………

And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

-          Revelation 21:6-7

………

“For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.”

-          Psalm 27:5-6
