Tithing is one of the most powerful demonstrations of faith in a true a living God. When we can let go of money and the love of it for the love of God, then we have truly advanced in our relationship with God.

Amen! Thank you for blogging on this topic.

In challenging economic times it's even more important for people to know (or be reminded) what the Bible has to say on the topic of tithing or generous giving. It’s not about giving to “get” of course, but there is a promise of abundant blessing for putting God first in your finances (and everything else) and as we remain faithful in doing so, even when our personal finances are troubled, that promise is kept (praise God)!

I recently wrote two posts on my blog about tithing that received some interesting feedback. I make it a point to keep my posts under 800 words, so sometimes my thoughts aren’t fully developed or explored. That may have been a mistake since there were many assumptions (and attacks) made in the gaps.

Although my posts do refer to tithing as 10%, it was intended to be conveyed as a starting point, not a limit or maximum in any way. Nor did I intend to dismiss the importance of our joyful giving in areas besides finances. Although I certainly received some of the “Amen” responses one would hope for on a topic like this, I received plenty with the sentiment that tithing/giving was OT and they didn’t need to give at all … or that to even use the “T” word was an abomination to the concept of joyful, generous giving which exceeds 10% in involves more than just money.

I appreciate the time you put into your post, your willingness to speak out on the topic and hope that you will feel blessed by the feedback you receive – including mine.
